Types of Decking Materials
There are several types of wood decks to choose from, each with their own unique characteristics and advantages. Here are some of the most popular types of wood decks:
- Pressure-treated wood - This is the most common type of wood used for deck construction. It is treated with chemicals to resist rot, decay, and insects.
- Cedar - Cedar is a popular choice for decks because of its natural resistance to decay and insects. It has a rich, warm color and a soft texture.
- Redwood - Redwood is similar to cedar in its natural resistance to decay and insects. It has a deep, reddish color and a straight, tight grain.
- Composite - Composite decking is made from a blend of wood fibers and plastic. It is low-maintenance and resistant to rot, decay, and insects.
Data on decks in the united states
According to a report from the National Association of Home Builders, 81% of homes in the United States have a deck or porch. The survey also found that the average deck size is around 320 square feet.
